That's how a lot of European sports leagues do it. It wouldn't fly here in baseball. For starters, can you imagine AAA players making 5-6 million dollars a year? How on earth is that team going to survive? Second, the minor league stadiums aren't nearly up to Major League standards. Third, it totally messes up the farm structures that all of MLB (and the minor leagues) enjoys. A MLB team could lose its top AAA players because the whole team gets promoted to the majors? That's a bad plan.

I think the stupididy of the idea has been pointed out well enough. So here is another thought, how do you think the team will improve just because they are in triple A, also why did we pick Triple A and LAST WHICH LEAGUE do we use for the Triple A team?

Well since a team is owned by somebody, I don't think they could work it out. But it sounds like a good idea to me. The problem is if say a Red Sox triple A team is the best team, the Red Sox are not going to want that team in the Majors because they cannot grab the players as needed like they can do now.

the bad part about this idea is that most of the talent in the Minor league is owned by a major league team. also imagine if the Red Sox lost 100 games and say a team from the middle of nowhere Idaho was the best team. then you'd have a major city without baseball and a city that couldn't house major leaguers housing them. Imagine you were Barry bonds would you want to sleep in a motel that only gets men cheating on the wives and hookers renting the rooms

It sounds like a modification of how some of the European soccer leagues operate. It would not work with the current American baseball system because the major and minor leagues are so closely linked - that is, it would be impossible to "promote" a AAA team because that team is composed entirely of players under contract to another major league team.

You would end up having two teams in the majors with players owned by the same franchise. (for example the A's and Sacramento RiverCats, owned by the A's). What happens if the A's need a win to make playoffs and the last game is against Sacramento?
This would also cause problems with making trades.
And scheduling problems.
Horrible idea that will never happen and he (she) that thought of it does not think to often.

I think it would be better to send the GM of the 100 loss team down and replace him with the triple A guy.

I have always wished that the four professional sports leagues in America would adopt a style similar to that used by the world-class premier soccer leagues. I think it is a great idea. Ironically, I always thought of the Phillies as a AAA franchise.

Would be pretty interesting to see but would never happen with the salaries of the major league team, regardless of how horrible they are, i.e., the Royals.
