When you talk about squatter right, you are generally referring to what's known as adverse possession. Adverse possession is whenever a person occupies a tract of land in the open and the owner does not stop or tries to remove this squatter. In Minnesota because of the strong timber and mining companies which owned large tracts of land in the middle of northern Minnesota, they were able to pass a law that prevents a person from gaining ownership through adverse possession if the land is properly registered.

However, this law does not apply to boundary issues, you can still adversely possess a small tract of your neighbor's land if you can show you have openly used that land for more than 15 years.
Additionally, one can never use adverse possession on government land.
