i think its probably cos they've been so used to gettin up for work etc that they're in a routine of it. My grandad was a baker and even when he retired he still woke up so early each mornin cos he was so used to it, and its been passed down to my mum, she does exactly the same.

They are probably used to getting up early, however I can never understand the reason people like to spend most of their days off work in bed, life has far too much to offer to miss it lolling around all day. You will find that people who have a passion for life almost always get up early. I never want to miss a minute. Do you ? Remember life is what the individual choses to make it, boring or so exciting that you can hardly wait to wake up every morning.

Well, the truth lies in a person's sleep cycle. When a person ages, the sleep cycle gets disrupted. There are different stages of sleep, stage 1, 2, 3, 4 and REM. Stage 3 and 4 which is also known as Delta Sleep decreases in amount as one ages so naturally they get to wake up earlier.

They have spent almost 70 years waking at the certain hour, it's hard to break the habit. It's sad in a way, but if they go to bed early and wake up early then it's a healthy habit.

I know people say that you don't require as much sleep when you get older, but as anyone with arthritis will tell you, movement helps and I'm betting that it just feels better to get up and get those bones moving. I just came to this conclusion recently after developing back problems. It actually hurts to lie in bed too long.

the older you get the more trouble you have sleeping, pensioners get woken up easily and cannot get back to sleep, which is why they go out driving and cause accidents, cos they are in a sleep deprived state.
