Too much!

Stains, if they can be removed, should be treated as they occur. Most carpets do not need shampooing more often than 3-4 times a year, unless unusual accidents occur.
Too frequent shampooing will eventually distort the pile.

If you know the cause of the stains it would be helpful. If they have remained over a long period of time, it may be useless. The color may have been affected.

This formula and instructions came from Anso Carpets: Mix 1/2 tsp ammonia and 1/2 C hydrogen peroxide. Blot area with solution. Cover with plastic wrap. Put heavy object over area for 2 hrs. Blot area with damp towel and vinegar/water solution.

The fastest way to dry carpet is to turn on the air conditiong in your house. It takes the humidity out and dries faster.
