Leather.... all the way. ♥
Velvet is nice for bedsheets or pillows. The texture feels sexy but I personally think it looks tacky in clothing.

My cloak is velvet but my hat is leather.
Leather is hard wearing and wipe clean (useful in for kinky situations).
Velvet is soft and feels good next to the skin (useful in kinky situations).
I'll go for leather for the sake that velvet picks up bad odours like cigarette smoke more easily.
