AS A CRNA AND LIVING WITH A LADY THAT WENT THROUGH THIS, YOU WILL NEVER BE HAPPIER. AT 40 ONE WOULD ASSUME YOU ARE THROUGH HAVING CHILDREN. THE UTERUS HAS LITTLE USE TO YOU IF THAT IS THE CASE, GET RID OF THE DAMN THING. YOU WILL WONDER WHY YOU DIDN'T DO IT LONG AGO. IF THE OVARIES ARE OK, LEAVE THEM. THEY WILL HELP MAINTAIN YOUR HORMONES FOR AS LONG AS THEY WORK.
IF MY 32YRS IN ANESTHESIA HAS SHOWN ME ANYTHING, IT IS HAPPIER WOMEN AFTER HAVING A HYSTERECTOMY.
AS THIS CAN BE DONE VAGINALLY, CONSIDER DOING IT THIS WAY AS IT WILL KEEP YOU FROM FROM HAVING ABDOMINAL WOUND AND HEALING IS MUCH QUICKER. YOU CAN HAVE A SPINAL WITH NARCOTICS FOR POST OP PAIN CONTROL AND BE MORE ALERT BY NOT HAVING TO METABOLIZE ALL THE ANESTHESIA IT WILL TAKE TO PUT/KEEP YOU TO SLEEP. A LITTLE SEDATION,YOU WAKE UP, SURGERY IS OVER, LITTLE PAIN,IF ANY, AND BADA-BING YOUR UP AND ABOUT TAKING NOURISHMENT.
ENJOY!

My mom, at 49, was having really heavy periods, and getting them like every 2 weeks. It turned out to be cervical cancer and they did a radical hysterectomy and she is now 52 and doing fine. She says she doesn't miss the hassle. It did cause her to go through menopause, but she just made a joke of it and went on about her life. My aunt also had to have a hysterectomy. They had to cut open my mom, but not my aunt. My mom was down for about 6-8 weeks afterwards, but my aunt was only down like half the time.
Good Luck with whatever decision you come to.

Please do lots of research and give it plenty of thought. I have two friends who regretted having the surgery, because they ended up with worse complications. I too had incredibly heavy periods. The word heavy doesn't even do it justice. But after hearing what everyone had to say and doing my own research, I just let it be and waited for menopause. No longer getting those periods has changed my life!!! But I'm still not sorry that I didn't end them sooner. Again though, read everything you can and make an informed decision. Good luck.

I had the same problem at 36, tried other things, and had to do it finally. It has been fine, they left my ovaries, and now ,at 52,I'm going thru menopause. Be sure to have a Doc you trust to make sure it is what you really need. I was glad to give up 3 weeks at a time of periods I can assure you. Good luck to you.

PLEASE! read: Womens Bodies, Womens Wisdom, Creating Physical and Emotional Health and Healing.

Unless you are totally convinced you need this hysterectomy and have tried everything else available, then you shoulddo it. However, if you have the slightest doubt, don't do it!
The book will lead you into what periods are all about and what food and emotional patters your period is related to.
My advice Don't do it.

Uterine fibroids are usually not dangerous, but can cause immense discomfort and lead to complications like anemia from heavy blood loss. In rare cases, they may cause complications that affect pregnancy.

In cases where there are no symptoms, treatment may not be necessary. However, proper diagnosis and treatment may be required if your symptoms are severe or causing complications. Along with conventional treatment, you can try some natural home remedies. Read here https://tr.im/mLH5R
