I'm wondering specifically how the 2010 World cup Soccer will influence the Marketing of the South African Tourism Industry, before the world cup, during the world cup as well as after the world cup.

I think that sport, in general, and soccer in particular, combined to tourism are two decisive ingredients for sustainable development in South Africa and for irreversible and dynamic socio-economic growth.

I'm a South African, living in Seoul, Korea and have been here since the 2002 World Cup. From witnessing this first hand, I can see lots of foreign visitors flocking to Korea. Even more than before the World Cup. I think this will be the same for SA as people are very uneducated on the country. Just as they were about Korea.

I also believe that tourism will pick up as soon as everything settles down in SA. I've made it my mission to re-educate Koreans on SA and have so far gotten 3 churches here to donate money to AIDS victims. They all intend to visit our country during the WC. Our school has sent many students to SA on homestays and they were pleasantly surprised. The parents intend to do this every year.

So, I can truly say, from a Korean point of view, that people are going there to check it out and that some are already planning to go there. Many Koreans I know have opened special accounts to save for 2010.

Interesting question. I think it obviously will. As to how they will make use of the opportunity we would have to wait and see. It is a big event for the country and I know the country is gearing up on all levels to address the event. South Africa has shown in the past few years that it can host big international events such as the international Earth Summit in 2002 and the XIII International AIDS Conference in Durban. Of course the World Cup is a much bigger event, and there are many issues that SA have to address to be ready by 2010, the country is working at it. We certainly have opposition parties in government who do not let a moment go by without hammering on the issues, so it is never far from our minds. Yes, naturally the advertising industry will use the world cup - that is what the industry does!

REFERING TO THE TOURISM INDUSTRY.... I AM SURE THIS WILL BE POSITIVE ...THERE ARE ALREADY MARKETING IN PROGRESS... BEING IN THE TRAVEL INDUSTRY MYSELF FOR THE PAST 25 YEARS , I ALREADY SEE THE CHANGES IN THE TREND
AS A SOUTH AFRICAN AND A CAPE TONION , I KNOW THERE IS A LOT MORE WORTHWHILE CAUSES THAT THIS MONEY COULD BE SPEND ON , BUT IN THE END WE WILL ALL BENEFIT

I think South Africa will have to sort their safety issues out before they can expect people to travel around the country , the crime -rate is big at the moment .
