I've seen better people busking on the streets... Jimi Hendrix is only famous because he got hype from the big record companies which control the music industry, just like the Beatles did. There are much better musicians out there if you know where to look. Unfortunately the average music fan sways for any nonsense the music industry force feeds them.

Kind of hard to compare - like apples and bananas! Since I've never heard Mozart or Beethoven record their own music -- and they didn't write for guitar. Did Hendrix write for piano or orchestra? If so, I haven't heard it. Anyhow, structurally, the music of Mozart in particular and then Beethoven and Bach are unparralleled by most modern musicians. It is fair to say, though, that Hendrix is, technically, unparalleled by most modern guitarists (except maybe BB King, Eric Clapton and a few others I'd put close to him.)

I love Hendrix but there are other musicians that are great and I disagree with the list you have. Hendrix first learned the styles of many other musicians.

Sorry, hendrix can't stand with those two until his music is universally hailed as being among the greatest accomplishments of the human race 200 years afer his death.

I think you need to acknowledge Marc Bolan there too. He learnt a great deal from Hendrix, but mastered his own way of playing. Watch some video tapes of him and you will notice his unique navigation of the guitar.

I disagree. Like most great guitarists, Hendrix was not as great a song-writer.

Hendrix is best overall unless someone else comes along, but I seriously doubt he/she will.

To my man who's a guitarist you are right to classify him as first.
Carlos Santana comes 2nd.
Frank Zappa comes 3rd.

I think it's good to be a musician by heart. :)
