Hyundai Santro---PLUSES
a. Better vehicle dynamics---suspension
b. Better Ergonomics
c. Better fuel efficiency
d. Better engine
e. Better space utilization
f. Better Noise & vibration (of engine as well as body) elimination
Tata Indiaca---Pluses
a. More Legroom
b. Local parts
Santro---Minuses
a. Fuel efficiency at the cost of pickup---so don't expect it to be a fighter jet.
b. Rear seats a bit uncomfortable for tallers on long drives.
Indica---Minuses
a. poor Rear suspension---in fact very bad.
b. Leaky engines
c. Noisy timing & fan belts
d. Higer Noise & Vibration level---in fact the floor makes a lots of noise as if the car is dragging on a gravel.
Verdict: Agreed...Indica is my 'desh di gaddi' but TATA has a long way to go...Santro is better at the moment!

Many people like Santro bcoz of its looks. But, I assume u don't care much about the looks as you are comparing two cars. IMHO, Indica is a much better choice. First, it has a 1400 CC engine, which is more powerful, yet efficient. And, then Santro, I hear, is not very safe on highways. Being tall, it tends to topple on curves.
If possible, go for the diesel version of Indica. It has verrry low running cost and hence is preferred by most transport agencies.

i hv both tata indica and santro xing.. personally i feel indica is better.
