Sometimes when I am driving home from work my battery light will come on and if i press the gas, the headlights and dashboard lights get brighter. Along with that the check engine lights comes on with the abs light. The check engine light and the battery light both go off when i press the brake but the abs light stays on. Again all of this only happens sometimes.

The check engine, ABS and battery lights are coming on due to a low voltage condition. Codes will also be set in the systems. It could be as simple as a slipping belt or poor/loose connections at either the battery or the alternator. It could also very well be a defective alternator, even though it was recently replaced.

I'd have 2 guesses for you with this one...
irst..when you replaced the battery, did you replace the cables? Did they have any corrosion on them? I'd say the first thing to do is to replace both of the battery cables...not just the connectors!! this sounds like a grounding problem with the negative terminal of the battery. This is most common on Chevy 4 cyl. engines! Especially if you're in a cold or damp part of the US/Canada.

If its still doing it, then mst likey there's some damage with the main wiring harness for the car, most likely a damaged common ground wire. First...look for the large bundle of wires under the dashboard and trace a group of about 6 wires going to the back of the speedometer set. Often on the lamp card in the dash the solder joint goes bad...see if a wire there is off or loose. What's probably happening is when you hit the brakes something under the dash is moving and hitting this wire causing the connection to fail.

Sounds like the alternator. Do you have an amp guage in the car? Probably just a dummy light. take it to a local auto parts store and have it tested, most of them will do it for free if you can take it out yourself. Also could be something like the voltage regulator

You may have a bad ground. I have had similar experiences. Add a wire between the neg. post and the engine block. see if it helps. You can also check (doing the same) between the alternator case and eng. block and neg post and body. A loss of ground continuity in any of these connections can cause strange electrical problems. They all should be in contact w/ each other.

Check the ground that is attached to the battery tray, it may be corroded from spilt acid.

Also check the harness and connectors for the same concern in this area.
