The funniest movie in English or the funniest English movie?
My favorite funniest movies (funny, not just clever, witty or droll) in English are "What's Up Doc" (1972) with Ryan O'Neal and Barbra Streisand (OMG FOFL) and "Rat Race" (2001) with ensemble performances by about half of Hollywood (howlingly funny - could have been so awful but was so good instead).
I haven't seen too many funny English movies of late so I have to reach back to the Ealing Studios masterpieces of the 1940s and '50s: "Kind Hearts and Coronets" (1949); "Whiskey Galore" (released in the US as "Tight Little Island") (1951); "The Lavender Hill Mob" (1951); "The Man in the White Suit" (1951). "The Mouse That Roared" (1959), starring Peter Sellers, was not an Ealing comedy but it was English and hilarious both in concept and execution.
