i mean arent they lesbian because they love what a woman looks like..?why do they go all out and strut around like men wearin backwards ball caps and shorts and really short hair cuts..doesnt that sort of defeat the purpose of bein lesbian? some women look way way to much like men, and i dont mean to be rude or insulting so dont answer me all mad and stuff thats not what this is about...its just that i have always wondered why a woman who wants to be with another woman, (which is cool in my book, i dont judge)would go way out of her way to look like a man....

think about what you are answering though, there are many many lesbian couples in which both partners look very much like women...and if lets say the "butch partner in a relationship really wants to be a guy, what about the other half of that relationship? she wants to be a guy with a vagina? kinda confusing when you think about it....

Well as a butch woman myself, I would have to say that I like dressing comfortable. I'll leave the heels and dresses to the femme women. And as far as what attracts femme women to us, the general answer I get is we are butch but were still women, and guys are still a**holes. So hey I guess its all about preference. We dress masculine, but we dont disrespect and degrade women the way guys have perfected over the years.

I'm guessing the lesbians who look like dudes do that because that's how they are most comfortable. Can't imagine someone going that far away from social norms, knowing that she'll be ridiculed by most folks and not hired by most employers, unless she is really comfortable looking and behaving that way.

As for the ladies who are attracted to butch women.... I have no clue other than the butch women treat them more kindly than a man. But that would suggest that these femmes are sincerely tired of sexism more than that they get horny by a looking at a pretty lady. These femmes project that being lesbian is a choice.

Most lesbians are not butch and they get horny by looking at other pretty ladies. For them, being lesbian is not a choice.

For me, the butch/femme dynamic brings up some interesting questions that have nothing to do with clothing and haircuts.

Its usually a case of them wanting to be a man. Just like when you see a gay guy dressing as feminine as possible and in drag.. he wants to be a woman. Usually when you see butch women they are with other butch women so basically they want to be a man and do manly things like fishing and watch sports and stuff instead of focusing on more feminine things. When all the clothes are off though, the woman is still in fact a woman (unless a sex change has taken place.. which is where some of these cases head to eventually) and women know women best and the same goes for guys.

lipstick women and lumberjack guys are very heterosexual ideal. most gay men are more sensitive than brutish straigh men, and most gay women are more tough than dainty straight women. because society makes fun of that, gays will take it and make it worse and shove it in their faces as a badge of courage.

its like taking the pink triangle which was used to shame gays, and now using it as the gay logo. its a way of telling the straight world f*** y**. So same with butch dressing women and dragqueens ... its a way of saying f*** y** to straight sociaty that freaks out at that.

its a way for gays to reclaim some diginity. if the straight world spits on you and laughs at you and kills you, should you succumb and do as they say and go back in the closet... or should you be butch women and say f*** y** ?

Seriously "Hellfire" ... what does "a woman" look like? If you look at pictures of women from all over the world, you'll see an endless variety.

So you appear to have a problem with *some* women who are *gay* and look like what you think *men* look like. Now of course not *all* men look like that. But I know what you mean. And the answer must be: because their girlfriends find it hot when they dress like that.

And if you have a problem with that, guess what? They DON'T CARE!

young fella I think you need to re-think your perception on butch women they'll defiantly aren't trying to be men...the problem lies with your idea of what makes a man /women ..did your mum/dad dress you all in blue when your where a baby..have a think abt what your parents taunt you what constitutes being a boy/girl and how you have grown up with that 'idea' of what a boy or girl should or shouldn't be.....you may want to change that..you'd surprised how many straight men remind me of women and that isn't because of the way they dress...

I have been told that there is allways a male and a female part of a relationship if you ever see some together you look and see there's a "guy" one and a "girl" one. Its with gays to.

Because they were not attractive enough as ordinary "women", so in order to start being cool/attractive, in a sense, would be to take advantage of their unwomanly features and make the most of it.
