Irregular smears are more normal than you would think... Dont worry you arent going to die.... A lot of the time these changes are caused by HPV a virus that can cause cervical cancer.. It causes you to test irregular but generally the irregular cells are pre cancerous or even not cancerous at all... I was told I had cervical cancer a couple of years ago by an inexperienced gyno.. I was devastated... so I know how you feel... you feel like the world is coming to an end... Then I went for my colposcopy and found that many women have changes with their cervex that correct themselves naturally... I was lucky that that was my case..
Anyway.... I hope tomorrows appointment goes well and that everything turns out okay...

oh honey I really sympathise and I can really identify with you. I've had two abnormal smears in 7 years the first time I was treated by colposcopy and only last friday went for my 2nd colposcopy which I'm sorry to say was a disaster so I have to go back and have it done under general anaesethic. It's easy to say don't worry I still do but what you have to remember is that they have caught it before it gets worse and turns cancerous. I wish you all the very best and that everything turns out well, please . remember and I preach this a lot but always go for your smears they are important. I wish I could give you a hug. Tell you what i'm coming back as a man in my next life they don't know the half of it with love JLB XXX

Remember a Pap smear can only tell you that there are abnormalities. It can't diagnose you. Even in worst case scenario, if you have cancer, it is not a death sentence. There are many survivors.

I had a bad Pap smear about 5 years ago. The colposcopy came out ok but I didn't go back for another Pap until last month. It was fine. Not a thing worth mentioning. Here I spent years worrying they were really going to find something next time and it turns out they didn't.

I hope yours turns out ok. I am saying a quick prayer for you.

I am an alternative medicinal therapist and an ex nurse, please stop crying, your only making yourself worse and your girls will get very upset. I have 3 daughters and 6 grandchildren. I also had a smear, they made me go back 3 times because they said I hadn't enough cells. But everything was OK in the end.I know how you feel, but look at this this way, IF you have cervical cancer it has been caught early and there is an 90% chance of recovery. I have patients who have had a full hysterectomy and have fully recovered. If you want to talk contact me.

I had a colposcopy and laser treatment there and then and they also took a biopsy, so whatever would have grown into cancer was zapped away thankfully my biopsy was clear...

Ive had clear smears ever since and apart from the pain and the discomfort i felt during the procedure, i was thankful that I didn't have cancer , so u need to focus on this being necessary..

That thought will get you through believe me it worked for me and Im still here thanks to modern technology. Just keep telling yourself it's for the best and you will be fine.. I must warn though, the needle they insert into the cervix is very long and it is very painful, so if you have a fear of needles discuss this first ok?

Good luck

Please dont worry too much over this. my sister had a smear test a couple of years ago (shes 22 now) and the first one was "normal" and the second one was "abnormal" and showed signs of cancerous cells. (you dont have signs of these cells and dont have cancer)she had to go regularly to keep up with the changes it was making. She went for a colposcopy last year to remove the cells, wasnt very pleasant, she says, but everythings fine now. I worry that i might have it incase its in the genes. i had one last year when i was 20. I know you can wait till 25 but i was worrying because she was the same age as me when they found the bad cells. But mine came back clear. Hopefully the next one will. Anyone out there who is waiting till 25 just to "get out of it" i wouldnt. you might as well do it now when your at least 20. my advice, take it or leave it. Please dont worry though. i think if it was serious they'd do more than a colposcopy, because its not spread. good luck with it and relax. try not to get stressed out over it, but i know me saying that cant help. please can you let me know how it goes tommorrow and when you get your results? thankyou take care x

Well I am glad that you don't have cancer. Good luck with the treatment, I have never heard of colposcopy so I don't even know what that is.

I do feel for you, but try and console yourself with the fact that smear tests are there to catch any changes before they develop into something more serious. You are getting the medical attention you need and are in good hands, so try not to worry (I know it is easier said that done) and be strong for your children.
