The laptop gives me an error message when I try to access the internet. Says "Connection with the server cannot be established." I installed the sofware and hardware exactly as the manufacturer required. In fact, the network card (NETGEAR) and software does show the wireless signal is connected to the wireless router but my computer software (Win Explorer) will not establish a connection. Something is missing or setup incorrectly and it's driving me nuts trying to figure it out. Any advice or information on this would be greatly appreciated.

Additionally, the laptop used to run the same equipment nicely. I had to swap out the hardisk and when I reinstalled Win98, this problem surfaced. Something is missing or something is not configured correctly.

some older laptops don't support newer cards, try using a external usb card.

Do you have a firewall installed on the laptop? You might have to configure the port settings...also, what server are you trying to access? My landlord has Optimum Online with a router, so everyone in the house can connect...but he switched routers and forgot to change security settings...even though my card was working (I'd had problems with it but got it adjusted properly) it couldn't see him until he realized he had to change back...not sure those are answers to your problems, but they're the first that come to mind
