I have great respect for the world and its people. There are those that I do not respect but there are valid reasons behind the lack of respect. I hope people do not live in fear of America and don't for one second believe that they do...... Bush certainly has not made it shameful to be an American. I'm proud to be an American and proud of my country. Bush has made mistakes but he is human and is probably doing the best he can. We have never had a perfect President and I expect we never will - regardless, the world should not judge America by one man. As for secretly plotting against America, I'm sure that some do but will not buy into the paranoia. You need to think of what is important to you, especially if you are an American - Is Bush more important than your freedom, your home, your family or your country. Respect yourself, your country and the world will view us differently - it's each one of us that can make a difference.

Americans do have respect for the rest of the world. The government, (The Bush Administration) does not. It is as evident to many Americans as it is to the rest of the world. The thing I cannot stand is Bush is speaking for the rest of us. But when we try to tell him we don't like what he is doing, he doesn't listen and he doesn't care. Many Americans know that in order to get respect, they must give respect. The people who believe this are honest people. The people who do not believe this are rigging elections to keep the power that goes with being the president.

The US should apologize to the world for our "interference" in their affairs, past & present. You know, Hitler, Mussolini, Stalin, Tojo, Noriega, Milosevic, Hussein, and the rest of those "good 'ole' boys", we will never "interfere" again.
We should withdraw our troops from all over the world, starting with Germany, South Korea, the Middle East, and the Philippines. They don't want us there. We would station troops at our borders. No one allowed sneaking through holes in the fence.
And since we are leaving all other countries no one from a terrorist nation should be allowed in. If you don't like it there, change it yourself and don't hide here. Asylum would never be available to anyone. We don't need any more cab drivers or 7-11 cashiers.
The US should or would have to make a strong effort to become self-sufficient energy wise. This will include developing nonpolluting sources of energy but will require a temporary drilling of oil in the Alaskan wilderness. The caribou will have to cope for a while.
If there is a famine or other natural catastrophe in the world, we will not "interfere." They can pray to Allah or whomever, for seeds, rain, cement or whatever they need. Besides most of what we give them is stolen or given
to the army. The people who need
it most get very little, if anything.
Ship the UN Headquarters to an isolated island someplace. We don't need the spies and fair weather friends here. Besides, the building would make a good homeless shelter or lockup for illegal aliens.
All Americans must go to charm and beauty school. That way, no one can call us "Ugly Americans" any longer. The Language we speak is ENGLISH...learn it...or LEAVE...Now, isn't that a winner of a plan?
"The Statue of Liberty is no longer
saying "Give me your tired, your poor, your huddled masses." She's got a baseball bat and she's yelling, 'you want a piece of me?' "

I travel the world on business and pleasure, including recent trips to the middle east, Asia, and Africa and have to tell you that most people around the world are able to seperate being critical of policy and hatred of a whole nation.
It is only in America and the UK now where in order to disagree with someone or their politics you have to hate them.
Most people I meet are fascinated by America and Americans, and there are actually a lot of people who quite like your president as well.
Europeans are probably the biggest critics and thats because they are also the most snobbish, and are also a little jealous because they used to run the world before you did.
Don't be fooled by your own propaganda.

Said truth is many countries don't respect the USA. This is terrible because the USA has done more then any other country in the world to combat problems and advance human rights (by the way if your laughing right now then the truth is you don't know your facts, only your anti American propaganda). This is also awful considering most of the rhetoric comes out of Europe, a continent of ungrateful (and let's be honest-f****** clueless people) that own so much to the USA yet take every chance they can to trash us. It's sad. :( But whatever, that's why we can only rely on ourselves :)

Jeff K, The UN doesn't have any muscle.
To answer the question, The damage that George Bush has done to the reputation of the USA should not be confused with the peoples of America. Americans, as polls show, detest this administration and it's war mongering, lies, and attempts to restrict American freedoms.

After September 11th america has been respeccted by all democratic peace loving nations. That day has provided the decision against International Terrorism by USA which impacts the nations those encouraged cross border terrorism, sposored terrorism, etc., and helped the global peace. Peace lovers are respecting US actions, and the deparates who are supporting terrorism are asking this kinds of questions (they cant do anything because whole world is following US other than terrorist nations or religious nations).

Most Americans could care less if the world respects us or not. Me included. Personally I wish we would sit back and watch the rest of the world kill itself off. As soon as we leave Iraq the Shiites and Sunnis will start killing each other, until the Kurds try to kill both. The Taliban and the Northern Alliance can back to wiping each other out. Hamas can keep shooting at the PLO and they will return the favor until Israel gets fed up and wipes them out. Lets pull out of South Korea and let them and North Korea shoot it out. Someone can take France again and this time we will let them keep it. The Muslims and Serbs can start up again in Kosavo. Lets get out of the UN and let them go on stealing money designed to feed people. They can also find their own building and land and get off the free rent they get in the US. Lets also stop pouring millions in aid to Palestine, stop sending millions of dollars in aid and medicine to Africa, and let the UN handle that. When their troops aren't raping the women and kids there. The next time a natural disaster hits the world, like a tsunami, we won't need to spend a couple billion dollars for food, emergency workers, rescue workers, etc. We can sit back and let the EU handle it. Would suit me fine if we just let the rest of the world have at it.

We respect others much more than we are respected by others. We are hated for being powerful. Envy is one of the seven deadly signs.
We liberate and empower people all over the world, and do they thank us. No they hate and conspire against us.
One day America will not be the top dog. When that day comes who will take our place? And what will they do with that power? More good, or more oppression?
