I got into a car accident last week. The driver in front of me made an illegal left turn and I crashed into him (I crashed into him, but it was his fault because he made the turn too suddenly, and left turns are prohibited in that area). Anyway, I spent two days in the hospital. My hip is broken, and am having surgery in two weeks. My baby survived the crash (I am 22 weeks pregnant; 5 1/2 months) but she is showing less movement. She no longer kicks. The doctor said she's fine...She is doing much better than before. Right after the crash, when I was taken to the hospital, her heart rate was really down, and we were all scared, but now it's back to normal. I'm afraid that she's not going to make it...
Also, will the hip surgery affect her?
Unfortuneatly, I will not be given anasthesia because I am pregnant. I will however be put to sleep and be given pain killers.
Will the surgery affect my daughter, and is she currently okay?
the doctor says she's fine, but her movements are different.

I understand your concern. Sometimes you can never be reassured TOO much.
If your doctor says your baby girl is fine, she is most likely fine!
It is normal for her movements to change. She is now pretty much developed and can feel pain, etc. Perhaps she's in shock, or maybe still in pain. Don't worry, i'm sure it's nothing! There are sooo many reasons as to why her movements could have changes. Good luck!
ohhh and OUCH. Sorry about the accident, and your hip!
eek. I had oral surgery when I was pregnant and was not given anasthesia because the baby might have been allergic to it.
It was so painful! I don't want to scare you, but i just had my wisdom teeth pulled out and part of my gum sewed up and I was in terrible pain...
ouch. good luck. And keep strong for yourself and your daughter.

Nobody on here can tell you that. I know you must desperately want reassurance. If your doctor says she's fine you have little choice but to believe that.
I have no idea if this might be the case now, but don't forget that when babies get bigger they move less because they have less room. I had one that barely ever moved. The books would say if you didn't feel movement after two days you should tell the doctor. I'd go the whole day and then into the next, and finally I'd feel a little, weak movement that I wasn't even sure was anything. I was so afraid the baby wasn't alive I didn't say a word to anyone. I just secretly thought there was something very wrong and didn't want to face it.
I lived with my secret fear until my little guy was born in a giant hurry at 34 weaks. He had been in a funny position, which could account for why he wasn't moving much.
Maybe if the baby has switched positions she's in one that doesn't involve as much moving.
The doctor isn't going to do anything that would harm your baby. There are never any guarantees in any medical procedure, but you have to trust the doctor and staff to monitor your baby and know what they're doing.
If you are really feeling that there's something wrong then ask the doctor again. Say that you can't get past feeling like there's something different. Ask that you be given an explanation as to why you would notice a change in connection with the timing of the accident. If they run a few tests again and see the baby is ok then you have to just assume she is.
Do you know the baby I had that didn't move made me so sure he wasn't living that when I went to have him I was all set to learn there was no baby to celebrate. I wish you could know what a kicking and screaming little fighter he was when he was born!! Go figure....

I think she's ok. The baby is protected by amniotic fluid.
My wife got into a vehicular accident too when she was 5 months pregnant and everything was just fine. My daughter is now 8 years old and was always on top of the class.
Prayers will also help. I wish you do.

Sweetie, don't worry so much. Trust your doctor. For one, he knows a lot more about this situation than any person here on Yahoo. And two, every doctor is VERY cautious about problems and giving patients incorrect information because they're afraid of a lawsuit.
Don't worry. Your doctor knows what he's doing. If he didn't, he wouldn't be a doctor, now would he?

I believe your baby is going to be okay. Don't worry just keep praying that she makes it and is the healthy and most beautiful baby girl you've ever seen. Just take things slow and don't be in a hurry. Smile I hope you become a great mother.
