My job requires me to take my laptop wherever I go and I need to have access to the internet at all times. Is there something that I can buy that will allow me to do this?

Your laptop should already be set up for a wi-fi connection either internally or with a wireless card.

If you go to USAToday.com and to the tech page, their is a place to search for wi-fi areas called hot spot finder, both free and paying. Some require you to use a card they provide, others are totally free.

As far as I know, their are no devices to actually do that. But company's have towers which send out signals to laptops. So, if you're lucky you could pick up a signal on the road, etc. Or, you could go to certain business (most businesses have wireless connections), such as McDonald's which I'm pretty sure has a wireless connection...

If the your target place has wireless lan then you try to install one wi lan card on your laptop. If there s no wireless lan you can try use the mobile networks to connect to network through gprs or 3g . Contact the operator for more info . And use your mobile as modem to pc via bluetooth or usb cable . Hope this helps

I have a wireless card for my laptop, but it only works at places that have wireless internet (like Starbucks or McDonalds).

Hey i think you are looking for a Mobile Internet solution, i would suggest you to call up your mobile phone providers and they can help you with it, i dont know whihc country you are from otherwise must have helped you in a better way, i would suggest you to go for a CDMA or GPRS connection, and if your country has 3G or UMTS network then better go for it, for thid you need to buy a connection and with that you can connect to the internet using that cellphone on your computer. hope that helps

Just buy WLAN USB and install accompanied cd, then you're wifi ready!

Search for hotspots in your area (see link). Airports, hotels are becoming hotspots, and so are fastfoods like McDonalds...
