It's about politics. Like gambling. Cal, made deals with Nevada years ago over the water rights of the River, and legal prostitution was what Cal gave the right to Nevada, among other things, like gambling. The only gambling in Cal is Federal controlled, except the bi-weekly lottery thing. Only the fed Indian nation can have casinos in Cal. So the prostitutes in Cal have to work unprotected, and lots of them are beaten by their 'johns' and some are killed. In Nevada, they are respected, and very clean, decent ladies. I worked as a maintenance engineer in a ranch in Pahrump for a few years. I never was allowed to be a customer, because my liscense wouldn't allow it, and I know lots of very beautiful hard working ladies, that I have high respect for.

For the longest time NV had been trying to figure out ways to promote the state to bring in more money for revenue. That is why they were one of the first states to stage prize fights, as well as legalize gambling, quick divorces and 24 hour liquor laws.
Legalized prostitution was one other way the state could create revenue as well as regulate what was already transpiring. They could not only charge tax on the service itself but could also charge for licenses to run the brothels as well as a multitude of other services provided to the "chicken ranches".
However prostitution is not legal in Clark County where Las Vegas sits.

I don't know why it can't be made legal in other states. It would cut down on illegal prostitution and help stop the spread of diseases if more states allowed legal brothels like Nevada does. Plus, if California had legal brothels, I wouldn't have to be a lonely 35 year old virgin right now.
