When the Assyrians conquered the ancient state of Israel they removed as captives 10 of the 12 tribes of Israel. Presumably they took them to Assyria in what is now Iraq. These people have been referred to as the lost tribes of Israel. Did they disappear from history or is there any indication of what happened to them?

On Digging for the Truth (History Channel) this subject was discussed and they tested a tribe in Africa that claimed to be one of the lost tribes. Their genetic codes did match those of Jewish descent.

They've been claimed to be every group you can imagine. Every time Europeans have encountered a new group, they've claimed that they were one of the lost tribes of Israel. They've been claimed to be the Irish, a tribe of Native Americans which had blue eyes, and even the Eskimos. There's no proof that any of these have any connection to them, though. When they were kidnapped by (I think) the Assyrians, it is believed they just were assimilated into that culture.

One publication I read a long time ago, published by the Worldwide Church of God, says that the lost tribes are those of English descent, the U.S., Britain, Canada, Australia, New Zealand. This is not a racist church by any means. They do accept everyone from every culture. They just think that somehow the tribes made it to Britian. I do not remember the specifics, but they somehow figured out from scripture.
