Nope. "An organization" is too broad a term. There are many organizations. The Boy Scouts is an organization and I'm pretty sure they're not about making a profit.
If you make the statement "An incorporated company operates for the purpose of making profit" then yes, I'd agree. There is no other reason for the entity to exist. If it's not making a profit then the market is pretty clear on its usefulness. This gets into economics and allocation of resources in an economy.

Of course. I noted you put this question under Higher Education - University. Today, Universities across the western world are operating on the sole basis of making a profit, apart from a selected few. That's why you see so many foreign fee paying students that are paying a fortune to the university in order to obtain a degree, and the university is obviously fleecing them and charging them obscene amounts that are way beyond the cost of producing the "service" and hence are making an extraordinary profit. It is sad, but education today is fully commercialized, and many well-known and reputed universities are even giving their "franchises" overseas in order to expand into new markets and further make more profit. Money makes the world go round, and what better way to learn it than from a university!

Every organisation operates to achieve its set goal. This goal, when achieved, relates to it having made a profit. In the eventuality of results not achieved, the loss is felt due to waste of time, money, enegry & other inputs like honarary efforts, research.
Blessings are also there in form of incomes from other sources. ie, land & capital appreciation, sale of products made by the unit.
The fundamental reason is to create a base to impart Religion, education, knowledge, self help groups etc.
