Because one plastic can not have all the characteristics that are needed in all applications. sometimes we need soft, sometimes hard. sometimes we need stiff, sometimes flexible.

;-D Maybe paper is better for some things.

yeah, china jon is right.
different plastics have different melting and boiling points, different softness and hardness, tensile strength, polymer chain strengths, different chemical properties and physical properties in summary.
So, one uses different plastics for different occasions.
