I always get Cystitis just before my period, but I tackle it and keep it under control by drinking lots of cranberry juice.

If that hasnt worked, canestan (Sp) does this powder called Canestan Oasis which is dissolved in water. Again - tastes horrible but it helps clear me up (you've just got to neck it as quickly as possible). I only need one sachet usually, but they recommend you do a course of 6. It also usually clears me up in around 15 minutes, but again it depends how severe yours is. I know you can get other brands, but I find that is the most widely available.

I also find hot baths soothing for some reason if i'm suffering.

If its really bad and none of this is working, then go to the GP and get some antibiotics to clear it up.

Drink a lot of 100% cranberry juice, while you are having the cystitis. Once the symptoms have lessened, you may continue to have the juice, at least eight ounces; once per day. You can also take Super Concentrated Cranberry Fruit softgels which are a supplement which promotes urinary tract health. The Rexall brand, which I purchase at Walmart, works very well, and does not have a lot of additives and preservatives. It does have additional vitamin C, which helps the Cranberry remove toxins and bacteria from the urinary tract. Make sure that the juice is 100% as that is what will work the best while you have the symptoms. There are a lot of blended juices out there, so read the labels carefully. I used to suffer from cystitis a couple of times per year, and have not had any problems in the 4 years I have been taking the cranberry supplements. Good luck to you, I hope this helps!! Have a good day!!

To cure cystitis you need some antibiotics. To help ease the discomfort until the antibiotics start to work try something like Cystem or any other Cystitis tablets easily obtainable from the chemist. To help prevent it returning you should drink lots of water and cranberry juice. I mix cranberry juice with diet lemonade which makes it a nice refreshing drink.

If you do not get the cystitis cured properly it will keep coming back every couple of weeks because the infections does not get out of your system.

I have suffered from Cystitis in the past quite severley and I read about this cure in a leaflet from the local clinic.

You need to drink a pint of water every 15 mins for 3 hours, I know it sounds stupid and it isn't very nice but I promise it worked for me.

You will feel bloated and a bit sick half way through but you have to keep at it. It basically flushes you out. You'll be peeing alot (after a couple of pints it doesn't hurt as much) but it's worth it in the end.

I am an alternative medicinal therapist and an ex nurse. It's all very well saying drink cranberry juice, yes it's a wonderful way of getting rid of it but curing the symptoms is not not going to cure the cause.Your immune system for one thing may be at fault and taking antibiotics will only do further damage to your I/S. In order to help you i would have to ask a few questions, So if you want help contact me.

Cranberry juice is good. I found that drinking tonnes of water helps to flush it out but you really need to get anti-biotics because they kill the infection. Try asking your Gp for either Trimethroprin or Cefaflexin but ask for a longer course than 5 days because this is sometimes too short and only clears it up for a day or 2.

cranberry juice, parsley tea and cymalon powders or effercitrate. you should get this checked by your gp. persistent cystitis could be a kidney problem. make sure you always wipe your bottom front to back even after a wee. use only very mild soaps and shower gel and don't use bath foam. don't use perfumed sanitary stuff and change your sanitary wear more often. avoid scented wipes and perfumes in this area.

My Mum had interstitial cystitis and had a huge operation to reconstruct a new bladder from her bowel. She was advised to drink cranberry juice.

Cranberry juice. Or if you can't stand the taste, you can get it in capsule form at health food stores. You should also not drink other things besides water during this time, no caffeine especially. This just seems to aggravate the problem.
