5r + 3h + (1/3) c = 100
15r + 9h + c = 300
r + h + c = 100
c = 100 - r - h
15r + 9h + (100 - r - h) = 300
14r + 8h = 200
(14/8) r + h = (200/8)
h = 25 - (7/4) r
Well, we have to by whole hens, so let's make r = 4.
Then, h = 25 - 7 = 18.
And c = 100 - 4 - 18 = 78
To double-check, 5 * 4 + 3 * 18 + 78 / 3 = 100.
So, you can buy 4 roosters, 18 hens, and 78 chicks.
