Who's "we"

Have you really ever done/heard this?
I've never come across it.
People do use terms like this, hoover for any vacuum cleaner, but you don't have many examples like it. Usually if they use a brand name they mean they want that brand. ie saying Heinz baked beans instead of just baked beans.

If someone wanted instant coffee, I think they would say a cup of instant, I have heard that, THOUGH NOT OFTEN. If someone particularly wanted nescafe brand they would just say nescafe, because you wouldn't say nescafe coffee,

But mostly I don't think people would ask for it because you would only want instant if you were in a rush. I don't think anyone would care about the brand in that case.

In many countries, Nescafe is the best brand, and it gets so into the people's life that the brand's name becomes the word for coffee. it's like how the Americans say 'i'll fed-ex it to u'.

I ask for coffee, espresso or latte. You were obviously brought up on nescafe and it's similar to british people calling a vacuum cleaner a hoover. It's kinda cute really.

Same reason we ask for a coke instead of a cold drink and a kleenex instead of a tissue.

It is drilled into us to the point where we drink nescafe, even though it is only fit for clearing out blocked drains.
