WW II Japan surprises America with the bombing of Pearl Harbor. American forces stationed in the Philippines, unable to receive re-enforcements from the States, are soon over run by the Japanese. Tens of thousands are captured on a southern coast and forced to march hundreds of miles with no food or water. Those that survived were put into prison camps where they were starved, tortured, and murdered. As the tide of the war turns the US Army invades the Japan held Philippines. The Japanese officers of some of the prison camps began killing hundreds of prisoners before fleeing from the US Army. The US Army knew of a prison camp that still had a couple of hundred American (and some British) prisoners that were in jeopardy of being killed by the Japanese so the US Army, along with Filipino resistance forces, staged a daring prison break. All but one of two Americans died during the raid but hundreds of Japanese troops were killed.

"The Great Race"?! One of my favorite films of all time. Jack Lemmon is brilliant in a dual role.
