Ok, i'm french and i've been dating an american girl for over 2 years now, so i think i know both cultures. And i wanted to know why a lot of american hate (or at least dont like) french ppl. And don't tell me that women don't shave or that we don't take showers, it's so not true...I'm just curious, may be i'm wrong, but when i visited your country i felt like americans just dont like french. What do u think? Thanks for you time.

I, as an American, have no problem with the French culture... I actually like it, your accents are pretty sexy ;). Just shake it off if you get the feeling that people are acting weird around you, like on the street and in restaurants ect. It's not like you're ever going to see them ever again, right? People shouldn't hate you because you're French.

I've been to France, and I've felt that the French don't like Americans. I don't know how it started, but this tension seemed to stand out a part when Chirac didn't support the US after 9/11. Personally I think that there is no solid dislike, because after Spanish, French is the language everyone chooses to learn in school...and many Americans dream of visiting France.

I have found the French people outside of Paris (say greater than 20km from central Paris) are friendly and fun to meet.
I found Paris to be harsh, it seems if you didn't speak perfect French (as an American) it appears acceptable to treat the person poorly (I sure in heck was). Most of the "news" about France we see here on US TV tends to magnify that "harshness" and wrongly apply it to the whole country. I have noticed it occurs in the French news concerning the US as well.
We Americans, like every other nation/people, confuse (what we see as, or think of as) the misguided choices of a governmental action, statement or policy with the "people of that nation".
Not healthy and very sadly, a reality.

There was a strong anti-French sentiment among some rather ignorant people, because France refused to help the US at the outset of the war in Iraq.

Most people I've run into, though, seem to be open to people of other countries. I'm sorry you feel such a strong dislike of your culture here in the US.

This is a great day for France!! It's because during Dessert Storm, the invasion of Iraq into Kuwait,WE the USA ,was rejected by the French after all we did for you in WW2! We needed to use your bases to land and re-fuel and you would not even let us fly over your air -space! The next time your country needs the good ole USA,we will go fishing! But personally I love the French and have been to Monte-Carlo,Cannes,Nice,met one of my loves Larura Bovich,if you see here tell here I still love her.PEACE!!!

i'm sorry you had to deal with ignorant people. i think the main reason is that the french didnt support the iraq war. if you manage to meet me next time you are in america i will be sure to not show you such unreasonable hatred.

I always thought it was the french who don't like us. At least that is the portrayal in movies and the media.
