Because if your body is digesting food there will be a lot of blood circulation around the stomach. It's okay that you had the cheese, it'll be long gone before the operation.

the requirement to stop eating a day or so before surgery is due to the anesthia(sp). i dont think they can put you under with food in your stommach for risk you could die from suffocation as your body may try to get rid of the food while u are still unconcious and could suffocate if it goes back up your throat or something like that.

the reason for this is so you dont get sick after wards from the anistetic and so you dont develop a cold or any other infection during this procedure

the medicine can cause you to throw up. dont eat no more. if it was a small piece you should be okay

You will be OK. They say not to so you stomach is empty so that they can see everything without trying to move around what is in your stomach.
