The fear is that under anesthesia, you could vomit and inhale the food, possibly causing pneumona (lung infection). It's not a question of a mess or inconvenience--you could get very sick from inhaling vomit. This is particularly true if you are (or might be) having general anesthesia.
On the other hand, many cesareans are done shortly after a woman has eaten because they are emergencies. Let your doctors know that you ate something so they can take any necessary precautions.

Yes, a chance you'll vomit and aspirate your food, get pneumonia, etc. That's why they tell you not to eat before surgery. Not to mention, throwing up isn't that much fun, especially with a fresh incision and staples in your belly.
No more food tonight! It's probably ok if you go the next 8 hrs without anything else but be sure to tell the anesthesiologist and your OB in the morning.

Just had a c-section 2 months ago. Planned- so they too told me not to eat anything. I didn't, and after they got the baby out I started feelling really sick. They kept giving me shots to help, but they didn't. Eventually i knew i was going to throw up, and so the doc gave me a little clear tube that had a suction to it. That way if i did throw up the tube could suck it out of my throat so i wouldn't choke on it. You get to hold your own tube. Thank godness i didn't eat because i started dry heaving really bad, and i can't imagine how bad it would have been if i had actually thrown something up. good-luck, let me know if you need anymore advice on c-section, i've had 2.

Eating after midnight before a c-section can cause you to get sick from the medication and also cause problems for the doc during the section since they cut everything open.

LOL. Yes, anesthetic can cause vomiting. They prefer you to not have anything in your belly to get all over them, or to break the sterility of the operating area. I doubt a little cheese will do much, but hey, I'm no doctor. Congrats in advance!
