Is is said that the universe is currently expanding both in space and time but how do we know that the universe is not currently collapsing, since the collapse of time, would mean that everything would be in reverse. Ourselves, standing at any point in time would not be able to perceive the collapse of the universe because we would think that we are moving forward in time only because we remembered our transition from past to present.

Let me reiterate that time is moving in reverse in a collapsing universe. Hence most physical laws and experiments like the Doppler Effect no longer works because they are based on the assumption that time is moving forward. More philosophically speaking, how do you know that you have not existed tomorrow?

No, I am not wondering if that is an end to the universe. I am wondering what if (granted that Stephan Hawking's theory holds true), the universe has already come to an end and is now in the process of collapsing? Many assume that we will be destroyed, but what if everything just went in reverse and we are still exist in that process? For every moment time travels backwards, we lose recollection that we have existed in the future and will only perceive that we have existed in the past leading us to think that the universe is still expanding.

NOBODY I REAPET NOBODY CN SAY ANYTHING ABOUT THE UNIVERSE! I SAY THIS BECAUSE NOBODY KNOWS ANYTHING ABOUT IT! the universe is something no onme will understand for a long long long long, you get the point, but the fact is, theory's are nothing but rubish, our technology has suppassed nothing compared to what we Could do, other beings out there, there may be, but no body can assume anything, WE have life, so apperently there is life somewhere else, BUT the technology of other beigns might not be able to reach us, plus, we don't know how long other life forms have been around, they may ave been around for millions of years, and just havent explored THIS galaxy, ect, but i say again, NO ONE CAN SAY THEY KNOW SOMETHING ABOUT LIFE< or the universe!

OUR PLANET IS JUST A PART OF SOMETHING MUCH GREATER! and we have yet to overcome this, we havent gone to another galaxy, ect, do we don't know, also, the LIGHT YEAR
this is very important to understand, if we look into our microscope, and see the uface of jupiter, it may just show dust, and there actaully may be "beings there" but the light of there existance has'nt reached our plkanet in time yet, so we don't know! camera's ect, won't help, because maybe the beings are just hiding, since there is no explanation of our existance, anywho, i stand corrected, no one knows more than than what is on our planet

Study some Stephen Hawkings- amazing theoretical physician! He'll set you straight! You seem to be wondering if there is an end to this universe since there was a beginning, the answer is most likely. Check out Hawkings.

There is no point to discussing theoretical mathematics with no connection to reality. There has been nothing but speculation regarding the theories of the 'beginning of the universe.'

They are simply theories of more or less interest. It is possible to create postulates that can indicate anything. It is a waste of time and effort.

;-D It would be better to design experiments from which we can actually learn something.

The Dopler effect when applied in astronomy produces a red shift or a blue shift. As something approaches it begins to shorten the wavelength of light creating a blueish hue. As it accelerates away it drags out the spectrum of light and produces a red hue. The same principle is applied to sound if you stand with your eyes closed by a road you can hear the noice increase in frequency and then hum away into the distance.

The Hubble Constant proved that the universe is expanding at a constant rate.

It may collapse one day but it is not collapsing now. If time were reversed, it would appear to be collapsing, but time isn't reversed, so it doesn't.
