If you know the name of the Trojan or virus, check for a fix tool from Norton or McAfee. reinstalling just the damaged file generally wont work because trojan or viruses tend to also make changes in the registry and startup/system folders. Therefore a good method to delete the trojan is to :
lookup for a fix tool from a anti virus site,
http://www.symantec.com/enterprise/security_response/removaltools.jsp
http://vil.nai.com/vil/averttools.aspx
download to the desktop,
restart your pc in safe mode,
run the fix tool,
upon detection - delete or quarantine,
restart pc in normal mode,
the trojan should be fixed by now.
A good anti-virus is kaspersky,
but a free version would always be AVG (though I cant vouch for it since I havent used it)
along with other support systems like yahoo antispy, adware, etc..

wininet.dll is an essential windows file but sometimes a virus will replace it. In some cases AVG identifies this file incorrectly as a virus.Have you tried to restore it from the vault? Also try to rename the infected file to wininit.dl and reboot, then delete it.Put a downloaded version of wininet.dll in C:\Windows\System32 .
If that still doesn't do it, you may have to register the dll . Go to start> run and type
regsvr32 wininet.dll
If other system files have been damaged, you should run sfc /scannow in the run box.You may need your Windows XP cd.
Should you have any internet connection problems, try WinsockXP Fix.

AVG has a loose version - and that i'm useful there are various others, inspite of the undeniable fact that attempt that first - If that would not do it, Symantec/Norton has an internet test, yet i'm particularly useful you need to purchase a software to get rid of the viruses - i've got used Norton over 2 an prolonged time now and that is in no way failed as quickly as - in many cases all of them get the virus signatures from interpreting sources sometimes courses are as much as date swifter than others, and Norton has their own committed team that methods those updates swifter than others, yet it extremely is a memory hog for some machines, its in basic terms doing what's mandatory to get the interest achieved stunning.

firstly avg isnt a very good avp(anti-virus program),it throws up loads of false positives(phantom viruses that are reported but dont exist on your p.c),try using avast instead, you can get it from http://www.avast.com/eng/avast_4_home.html,i have used it for the last year as i have found it the most reliable, and its free
you should never use a system restore as a anti-virus solution as all you are doing is restoring your p.c to a ealier time but making the virus harder to find
i used f-secure for a whole year and never had 1 virus, after the year was up,i used avg as a stop-gap,and guess what,i suddenly had 6 viruses,so i would take what avg says with a pinch of salt, try running a on-line scanner such as "stinger"or microsofts "malicous software removal tool",if you truley have a virus these will find them,so if you dont get any results from these scanners,i wouldnt worry
simple answer......never trust a.v.g for anti-virus protection or detection
good luck

Hi, perhaps you can install Mcafee or Norton to protect your computer and remove the virus, but you need to pay for them.
I also recommand you to use firefox with Google toolbar, which can disable the virus to run in your browser, because the virus can only run on IE.
firefox can block any any poppus and disable any virus and spyware, adware on webpage, so, firefox is much safer than IE. as you know, most of the virus is spread throught internet and webpage.
firefox is much smaller than IE, so i run faster than IE.
download firefox for free:

Best Wishes && Good Luck!

Instead of trying to heal or fix the infected file, delete it entirely.
Delete all files that are infected, and then reboot your computer.
If your antivirus program says that it cannot delete any of the files, write down the location, restart in MS Dos or Safe Mode and manually delete all the infected files. Then Restart.

"...Uninstall AVG And install norton or mcafee. they do a better job..."
I wouldn't necessarily agree with that statement. Both AVG (and also AVAST) are excellent anti-virus packages and,IMO, do a better job than Norton/Mcafee and use less computer resources.
A previous poster has given the correct remedy to removing your virus.
