Hello
You have a little error in your question. AIDS means Acquired Immune Disease Syndrome. Green monkeys don't get this, humans do.
So you must mean, "Where did Green Monkeys get the virus that causes AIDS in humans?"
There is a lot of technical stuff to explain the differences between viruses. Suffice it to say that animals have viruses that live in them without making them sick, as well as viruses that make them sick. Green Monkeys can live with the virus that we call HIV and it doesn't make them sick. When that virus went into humans, it made them sick by destroying their immune system. Humans don't actually die of HIV. They die because their immune system becomes less and less effective in fighting off all the diseases that make people sick. That is why AIDS sufferers have to take so much medication. Some of it is to fight the HIV, and some of it is to fight other diseases.
There have been many viruses that have jumped to humans from animals. Swine Flu, Bird Flu, Equine Encephalitis, to name a few. People who believe that these viruses were created by the US Government give way too much power to the US Government! They probably also believe that the Apollo Space Program was a hoax!
:-/ I am so sorry that AIDS has killed so many people! I am also sorry that some people hate the US so much that they blame it for HIV.

Firstly, African green monkeys do not have AIDS. They have a similar disease called Simian Immune Deficiency, but it is not normally fatal. The human version of the virus is believed to have been transmitted to humans in either a mutated (changed) form, or to have mutated in the surrounding human population. The humans who live in the same area as the African Green Monkey are also known to have a similar disease, but again one that is not fatal. The important point is that germs, whether viruses or bacteria, mutate spontaneously, for the same reasons other life forms with DNA also mutate. H. J. Mueller received the Nobel Prize for his discovery of the effects of radiation -- which caused mutations in fly chromosomes. Other things have since been shown to cause mutations as well, including various chemicals, as well as the radiation to which we are all exposed from the Sun.
