the possibilities with genetic manipulation alone are immense. the only problem is that in an age where someone could be upgraded to what we would percieve as a superhero.....he/she wouldn't be the only one, anyone could. and its that fact that takes away the speciality of the whole idea.
take captain america, had that formula and process not been destroyed he would just be one of many anonymous super soldiers ,not unique captain america. and on the other side of that era and morality: hitler was a perfect supervillain, never has evil been more apparent and pure.nowadays in evil everything is in shades of grey depending on what side you stand.
outside of genetics who knows.my views are not in the possibilities of getting powers ,its how they would be used to be considered superheroic. but philosophy aside. I believe advancements in above fields are happening and a few people will be able to do things that were once thought as superhuman.but as far as comparing to anything from a comic book , its far off

Brock Lesnar looks as if he could give Power Man a run for his money.
I think genetic manipulations may give us people w/ "super" powers, such as rapid healing, quickness (not the Flash mind you) and leaping ability.
Equipment based "powers" are the most likely. There are amputees that have artificial feet that allow them to run the 100 m dash in world record time.
And there has been work on an "exo-skeleton" (for strength like the Guaradian) for decades. I can see folks building on that.
And using equipment and/or modification of the eye, "super vision" is expected soon, too.

There are super villians. There evil on the grand scale of life and the world. What is Dr. Doom expect for a very smart man who uses his brain to do evil and controlling things. As more and more people gather knowledge and power, more and more villians appear on a grand scale.
Batman has his Joker, Lex has Superman and Reed Richards has Dr. Doom. Evil and good have their opposite side of the coin. As more and more villians appear there will be more and more heros to stop them.
I pray I am right on this

i all ready have supervillans, honestly i can give you a list.....starting with my dad......and throughout my turmoil in this world and after dealing with all this and that ....one day i gain ed some powers...i woke in the morning and instead of forcing myself out of bed ...i sprung.....and instead of my shaky walk on my heels i flew...i was given super powers...by whom ...a higher power of course ,instead of providing me with some help i was given strength....I'm serious its crazy ,but I'm loving it
i have the power to turn heads
i have the power to help ppl i really do ,i couldn't believe it at first ..I'm getting used to it and still finding out more about my powers ..i can even look in to the future ,,,i am my super hero.
