The best routes to take are to research the process of starting a business as well as the industry you're interested in.
I recommend checking out the SBA, Entrepreneur, The Start Up Journal & Nolo. All 4 are great informational resources for the new/small business owner. I posted links for you in the source box.
Research, research, research – this cannot be stressed enough. Read as much as you can. Here are some book titles that are relevant:

Unless you want the added aggravation of managing your own website (including making all the mundane changes and minor administrative decisions) hire the job out to a webmaster. One less headache for you. One hint, though: After it is set up, solicit some opinions on how well it works, how easy it is to use, etc. Many retail sites are very hard to use, to navigate, etc.

I used a Yahoo service I found on their home page. It was a link called 'Sell On-line" and I just checked and it's still there.

well it depends on if you want an ecommerce site (costs money)where people can make purchases from the site, or if you just want a free website so people can browse
Try getting an e-commerce book from the bookstore or library.
if you want a free website try tripod.com
