Java, and HTML both important for this field if not any other computer field.

Would agree with the Java or C# comment but a lot depends on what sort of work you are doing.

If you work in a purely MS environment then .NET is going to lend itself to your development.

If you have a mixed environment then Java is the better for cross platform apps at the moment.

Syntax wise C# and Java are very similar.

So horses for courses is the true answer here, personally I find C++ a little over complex to do the simple things.

I would suggest learning a RDBMS like Oracle. Database is inevitable for the kind of applications you are looking for. Then Visual Basic. Its easy to create applications with Visual Basic.

Depends on your target platform and your own background. If you are targetting only microsoft platforms, VB (.net variant) will be sufficient and is probably the easiest to pick up. If you need to cater to non-microsoft platforms and take a longer term perspective, then you should learn java.
