No, absolutely *nothing* but human milk (or formula) until baby is 6 months old. Every health organization worldwide currently recommends that babies younger than 6 months be *exclusively* breastfed for the first 6 months, so no matter what anyone here recommends, any other answer is going against all the real experts on nutrition throughout the world.

Water can fill up a baby so that she doesn't want real food that she needs for growth and development. Further, too much water can put stress on an infant's kidneys--and nobody knows how much is too much.

I would give my baby water later at night, if she wanted a bottle, and i would give it to her when she has a sour stomach. If she pushes her bottle away but wants something, try the water. It is not formula and it might make her happy.

absolutely! i wouldn't give her more than 3 or 4 oz. a day at this point, though (more if she's a really hearty eater). she still needs all the goodies in the formula or breast milk she gets the rest of the time. it's a great idea to get kids used to drinking water early, regularly and copiously. helps ward off the jones for juice (too much is not good ... has lots of sugars, both natural and synthetic), and soda that they inevitably develop as they get older & their access/exposure to it grows.

According to my pediatrician its okay, its even ok to give her gatorwater (1/2 water 1/2 gatorade). I give my 4 month old daughter the gatorwater and she lovesit, it also helps keep her hydrated since we live in the desert.

If breast feeding, it's not necessary. Your doc will tell you the same thing. If not breast feeding, definitely YES, do give a water bottle.
