got like mugged like 3 weeks ago, and of course for obvious reasons, I dont want it to happen again (hit 3-4 times, knocked out, got back-pack stolen).....Im NOT NOT NOT gonna carry gun, or a knife anything like that....but I have seen these like key-chains type things...kubakons, brass Knuckely type things, to have when your walking to your car.(SELF deFence purely).....What if i had that one of those type things on my keys (I heard Brass Knuckles were illegal, concelled weapon)...and was walking to my car, get attacked, use IT on an attacker, and really hurt him, or even kill him....do i go to jail, or get fined, or get in trouble?!?!?! EVEn if I was just defending my self????

Im looking into some classes about, how to take an attacker down, but it seems like one of those would be good to have as well. ANyone know the law, in which you defend yourself with a weapon that isnt like legal, but you use it purely for Self defence purposes ???what happens to YOU???

rather than carry around a weapon that you can get you charged ... think outside the box. go to walmart and buy a trial size aerosol hairspray (perfectly common, every day item) and carry that with you when you are walking alone.

as most people know, this can sting incredibly when spayed into the eyes and does not constitute pre-meditation due to the fact that it is common for people to carry them.

as the police officer above stated, self defence is only truly self defence when you do only what is necessary to defend yourself. you are not entitled to kill someone who is mugging you unless you are certain that they are about to kill you.

hope this helps :o)

Carrying an illegal weapon is, by definition, illegal. You can get into trouble for carrying an illegal weapon, even if you don't use it.

If you do need to use it, it's up to the prosecutor whether to add the weapons charge or not. And self-defense is not always an easy matter to prove, especially if you used illegal means in the defense. A good prosecutor can use that to show a prior intent to commit violence, which would undermine the self-defense theory.

In the end, it all comes down to the specific situation, what happens and who's involved. And then what the police and the prosecutor decide to do about it.

If you have questions about what self-defense items might be legal, contact your local police department. Ask them, and they'll be able to provide you information about staying within the law.

This question should be red by every person who supports gun control. When weapons for personal protection are outlawed for the law abiding citizen, the law abiding citizen loses.

You will be covered if you were defending your self against bodily harm. I wouldn't use something that's not going to stop them tho, it might make things worst they may try to kill you. At the worst they might charge you for the illegal weapon but you should be find if you can prove you were targeted for a crime. If you do damage he is not going to tell.

I know that you must of heard of: "There is strength in numbers", You have got to get some friends to walk WITH you. It sounds to me that you are a mark, and will suffer these assaults until you bring some muscle with you, as you walk around your city.

Shakespeare said: "He who steals my purse steals trash..."

Trust me, you don't want to risk your life for a few bucks. Just give the guy the money and be glad he didn't shoot you first and take it off your corpse. Seriously, there are some desperate freaks out there. If someone is trying to kill you, hurt you, rape you, etc., then fine, defend yourself. But if it's just matter of money? Forget about it. How are you going to spend it if you're dead?

The items you are talking about are illegal to have, not just when they are "concealed".

Self-defense, is just that, self-defense. It only goes as far as it takes to stop someone's attack. Just because someone started a fight with you does not make it legal to pummel them into a bloody mess. Once the attack is over, you are not allowed to continue...if you want it to remain "self-defense". Killing someone might just look like revenge.

You are entitle to use reasonable force to defend yourself. Such force can even be deadly if it is necessary.
