Why is it that humans are attracted to persons that are more symmetrical than persons who have a more a-symmerical look. is this an innate aesthetic appreciation. Is this true?

Man has through astronomy looked at the distant cosmos and has seen symmetry in the rotation of distant star systems. In biology has dissected very minute organisms and species and found a blueprint for symmetrical organization common among all living things, and in chemistry we have broken matter down to its lowest components and found symmetry. We can explain a lot through basic physics on the mechanical nature of how things work and will continue to work in clock like fashion on the laws we currently understand. Its not a matter of-- do we prefer symmetry,--- our very nature demands it out of fear that its the chaos that follows that will destroy who we are and what we are. Like Archimedes drawing a circle in the sand, we stare at it and are in awe of it. We begin to understand for the very first time how uniform and perfect nature is in all of its symmetry, and the promise of that puts us on the road to making sense out of our existence, making sense of it in an orderly way that hopefully will help us to accept life as being a beautiful creation based on definable laws. It helps us to appreciate that we are part of a larger order of things and that creation is by nature symmetrical. We accept it and apply it to all that we see, hear, smell, and taste-- our very perceptions are based on order. We chose our friends and out mates based on those who are optimistic and fun loving people who enjoy life, and we shy away from those who are negative with destructive behaviors.
Symmetry and order reflect life and the beauty of life, we not only want it, its in our very nature to demand it.

What is considered attractive, and what is considered unattractive? This is hugely subjective, and varies by culture. Also, everyone can reproduce so everyone's genes get passed on. If "ugly" people could not reproduce then the population would shift to what the western world considers "attractive". It has zero to do with the theory of evolution. It is just logic, and pretty obvious logic at that.

A symmetrical appearance indicates good DNA. For procreational reasons, you want to marry *yes, marry, if you don't like it deal with it* into a healthy gene pool.
