hi,
well i am getting my net from well known broadband connection provider, but in my area where i reside, i get that connection from my areas service branch, i heard that the branch office, or any other people is this service area can easly access/ enter other peoples systems( others peoples computer) ?, is it all possible ? if yes then how can i stop them, as we in INDIA dont have much cyber laws of crime. how can i protect my system from such kind of problems.

get a firewall like zone alarm (search it) it will protect from hacking. but i have never ever heard of that before. (branches being insecure)

Sounds like you have cable internet, or an equivalent. I recommend getting a router at your end that has a good hardware firewall, and preferably active denial, such that it won't even return a response to an uninvited query/ping. It'll be as if your machine isn't even there.
