Go through their clothes first, See how many they have that can be worn now and later when the weather changes. Just but new undies, socks,a couple of shirts/tops to match several pants, one new pr of jeans(it is too hot here for jeans until nov and sometimes they are not worn totally until Jan.)or two if it is colder and the kids have outgrown all of their long pants.$100.each should be plenty. You may spend more(125-150) on the older ones than the younger ones(60-80) will grow too fast and they aren't under any pressure to wear a certain brand or what's in.Then catch the sales for other items as the seasons change.Try to buy on good sneaker for boys and a casual shoe for later IF they need them. For girls buy a good sneaker and a brown or blk casual shoe for different outfits since girls tend to change up daily on dressed, pants, shorts, ect. You can add more clothes at Christmas and again in the spring. IT IS OK TO WEAR LAST YRS CLOTHES IF THEY ARE STILL IN DECENT CONDITION OR IF THEY STILL FIT. You can also go to thrift shops and consignment shops to get great bargains. I like to buy thrift st. finds and redesign them for my grandkids, neices, and also the great neices and nephews. I also put thier names on them and make things that are unique and/or in style. You can also advertise in papers/posters to sell your kids clothes on a first come basis and have extra $ for new stuff. Make sure they have no spots, missing buttons, rips, etc. Put in the ad the name brands, sizes, and the approx. count of items per child(sz 6-8 grls 8 tops,6 pants/jeans,3 dresses, 1 extra special dress/navy,winter coat, wrmup suit). You can put a set price or deal with the ppl. I like setting a price for it all to go at once It is a great deal for the parent on a strict buget and works with little time for shopping so set it at a resonable price but be willing to take a few bucks off if you need to.Some ppl do even clothes swaps with ppl with kids just opposite in ages and sizes. Good luck on your hunt! I just bought a few things for the grandkids this year for fun but I miss the shopping for school clothes and the best deals. My daughter was very popular and she never had full price clothes. I bought at Marshall's,Ross, etc and sometimes bought something that just needed a seam fixed . I slod bought formals for 5 proms and 4 Val. dances and a lot more and never spent more than $100.(That was because she was a Fresh. and chosen Val. Sweetheart for the dance )

I don't understand why parents spend so much money on their kids for a new wardrobe.
I used to work at GAP and Nike, and parents would easily spend $500 a kid on tax free weedend! And the kids were the most ungrateful brats.
Take your kids to a quality consignment shop! You can get gently worn clothes, or even clothes with the tags still on them for 1/4 of the price. I am very picky about what I wear, but I NEVER spend more than $10 on a item of clothing!
In 5 years, will your kids hate you for not spending two or three hundrend dollars on clothes?

That depends on age, what they "need" and how much control you let them have over your money.
My parents didn't give us a choice in the selection of clothing until about 5th grade.
When we got to 5th grade (and beyond) my folks figured what we "needed" socks, underwear, jeans, etc and added $20 for "upgrades" any thing above that was on us.
If we wanted an "upgrade" from the no name brand jeans or something not on "THE LIST" we had to come up with the money.
Again depending on age we could earn extra money at home for "extra" work or hiring out to do lawn mowing, yard work for others (that our parents approved of / ok with us working for)
Sure taught us the "value" of work and money and options available to us.
Starting 8th grade they would give us "the list" and we would meet up again to check that we had the list items then go to the clerk.
Starting 10th grade they gave us the list, the money (they had planned on spending) and gave us 2 or 3 hours. We'd meet for lunch, if we weren't done they would collect and guard what we'd purchased and give us another hour.
Forgot to add we got to keep anything we didn't spend, so long as everything on "the list" had been purchased. We suddenly became bargain hunters.

Depends on how old the child is. If their still growing and rapidly dont buy to much seeing that they will be grown out of it in a couple of months. If they are in high school and probably not gonna change in size then buy them more.
