Where are you going to live?
Different parts of the country can have vastly different costs of living. New York, NY is much more expensive to live in than my current town of Omaha, Nebraska.
I have listed a site with some cost of living indexes. Basically it takes the average cost of living and lists how the selected US cities compare to that average.
For instance, Omaha, Nebraska's index is 92.3, indicating that it's a little cheaper than the average US cost of living.
New York, NY is at 212.1 which means you should expect prices for goods and services to be double than that of the average.
I hope that helps!

It really depends on where you choose to live. Some states are less expensive, and there is also a huge difference within states. For instance, my daughter is in college in Utah, and her cost of living (with roommates) is only about $400 per month. Here in Arizona, at the University in the north of the state, friends are paying $1,500 month for their son. Others, in Phoenix, are paying
about $600 per month.
When you get into a big city it will increase, as will transportation costs.

There is no way to tell you that without knowing where you plan to go to school. Living costs vary from state to state and from town to town, depending on a wide variety of factors. Restate your question and state which city or town you plan to go to school in. You might even tell people how much you hope to be able to live on if you have an idea of the amount.

That depends on the city where you live. For example, I did my MA in Athens Ohio. My rent was about 350 dollars per month for a studio apartment. You can't get a shoebox for that amount of money in New York.

It depend on lifestyle. If you like going movies and dine a lot, you'll need more than $2000 a month
