I have a desktop that is Windows 98 and I wanted to reboot it but I can't find the disk that it came with. Does anybody know how to do it without having the disks?

Thank you in advance!

After you kick it the first time, kick it again.

Do you want to reboot your computer or reformat your hard drive and Windows 98? Rebooting a computer simply means turning it off, waiting about 10 to 15 seconds and turning the computer back on. But to reformat you have to have the Windows 98 Start Up Disk. This whole project could end terribly if you reformat your hard drive, and you don't have this disk. To create one, launch the Add/Remove Software window in your Control Panel. Once the window is launched, go to the Startup Disk tab, hit create disk, and follow the directions. Since it includes CD-ROM drivers, the Windows 98 Startup Disk will enable you to launch a painless Windows installation from a DOS prompt.

You can reboot in the following ways:

1. Click the start button on the task bar, then "Turn off the Computer" if you have Windows XP. Then a dialog box should open with 3 options. Click the one that says "Restart"

2. Press Ctrl + alt + delete twice consecutively

3. Physically hold down the power button on the tower for about 10 seconds, once it is off, press the button again.

4. Flip the power switch on the back, then wait for a few seconds and flip it back on. Then just press the power button that should be on the front.

5. If all else fails, disconnect it from its power source for about 45 seconds. That is called power cycling.

Edit:
The word you are probably looking for is "format." By formatting the hard disk, you erase all information on it, at which point you'd have to reinstall windows to renew the computer. You will probably need a Windows start disk (order one, borrow one from a friend) so that all the utilities needed will be available, for example, the fdisk.exe DOS utility that formats the hard disk

The only things you have to work with as possibilities are 'restore' settings, including any archives you've made of previous system states, or a photographic memory, and weed out any file that didn't come with the system (we're talking thousands here, so this isn't seriously advising you to try this). Alternatives all involve finding alternate system disks, or at the very least, a compatible Symantec/Norton disk.

If your comp. meets the requirments I would just buy the Win xp upgrade since Microsoft is going to stop making update patchs for 98 here soon. I'm looking in to doing that myself until I can get the money to build my comp that will be able to handle the xp and the soon to be released vista

REBOOT simply means to RESTART your computer.

What you're referring to is either RESTORE or REINSTALL the Windows 98 operating system.

You HAVE to have the Windows 98 disc to do so.

I think your looking for Recovery or reformat. Reboot is just restarting or shutting down and turning on again.

rebooting is restarting.....
you want to install the operating system again.
then you should require the booting cd for windows 98.
