Dunn: uh, dude, the guy that wrote the book IS BLACK. Steven Colbert is white. His guest (use google, "$40 million slave" you'll get his name) was black. (so i guess here is where you remove your foot from your mouth). anyway, does it get old playing the race card everytime you see a white person? have you ever thought to look in the mirror?

Sportakiss2, i looked at your links for about 15 seconds each, so i can't really comment on them, other than to say they look interesting. yes, racism really does go both ways. and it should stop both ways. interpersonally, institutionally, and every which way.

The price of slaves sure has gone up! You not only have your 40 million dollar slave you also have your 60 million, 80 million and 100 million dollar slave, ETC!. Then of course you have your 252 million dollar A-Rod slave...These slaves come in all sizes and colors, you have your lilly white slave, your latino slave, your asian slave and yes slaves still come in black...

What kind of question is that? If a black athelete is a 40 million dollar slave, then that would be the same as saying I'm a 8.50 an hour slave. Thats an extremely racist question, it's even more petty because it's trying to use sports to cover the underlying meaning that says blacks are some how still slaves. Whoever Steven Colbert is needs to be shot

According to this author, it seems like anyone working for a major company run by mega-billionares in suites can be a millionaire slave. Stephen even ASKED him if he could be considered a Viacom slave...and he pretty much agreed to it.

I think that the black aspect of the question is simply being stressed due to the one comment made by a player years ago.

Plus if they're considered slaves...then sign me up for the next auction, because I'm free and not doing half as well as some of these athletes. Anyone who is under such large contracts and has a league of agents and press people behind them at all times, needs to stay working hard to maintain their mini-personal-business...I don't think it's fair to compare the lives of these men with the women and men who suffered from our ugly history of racism and human cruelty.

the African-American population has been most succesful in areas where White paternalism has not interfered. The most succesful industries for black people are the Music and Sports industries because there is no way that any racists can say that they succeeded ONLY because they are black. I believe that everyone should be judged on merit, no matter the color of the skin. otherwise it allows anyone who is racist and in a position of power the ability to say that the black person who has gotten to where he is in the business world or academia has done so based on the color of his skin not his merit.

That is ridiculous man. How can you say that? They are entertainers just like everyone else who plays sports. Sportsmen are living a dream! Just like Warren Moon said in the induction ceremony," I want to be known as an Hall Of Fame quarterback, not a black Hall of Fame quarterback." People should be judged by merits and achievements not their skin color.
