differences between the components in local area network from year 2000 till 2006?

This question should goto any research scholar or any university. Hmm...

As far as I am concerned, the Network Interface card remains same - except that its speed might have increased.
There is no change in cabling, I guess. The good old UTP Cable is still being used.
In routing part, there might be some major improvements. I dont know about them.
