The y2k problem was the result of a practice in computer programming that would cause the internal calendars of computers to reset to January 1, 1900 when the clock struck midnight on january 1, 2000. There was much speculation that this bit of error would cause critical industries, such as electrical or financial companies, to halt and stop working. This would cause worldwide chaos and some even thought it was the beginning of the end of the world. Fortunately, nothing really happened and the world didnt end.
And since midnight would occur at different times for different places due to the time zones, I guess people thought that computers and business would shut down chronilogically, sort of like a domino effect.
My family did prepare for it, but they werent really scared. All they did was buy some xtra batteries for our flashlights.
Hope that answers your question.

no longer even. i do not recognize in case you keep in recommendations Y2K or no longer, besides the undeniable fact that it replaced into lots worse than this. Uncle Sam replaced into paying added time to any computing gadget geek who could carry a pen merely to insure the platforms would not turn back to 1888 or something, and they probability all that money that they extort from human beings ever 3 hundred and sixty 5 days. nicely, that and the FBI/CIA/position of beginning safe practices information on each American, with a view to falsely value them of being terrorists quicker or later. For 2012, and all the different hoax 'end of time' stunts that are being performed, they couldn't care a lot less. For that count number, they have not even problem to load an section commute up for Obama and all them, for at the same time as the asteroid heads in the route of earth and they could't nuke it, like they have been predicting because the overdue Seventies or so (publicly). All you should do is watch those ants artwork, and also you'll see if there is something to emphasise about. We nonetheless have nuclear fallout shelters left from the Fifties, only for the authorities sorts, no longer the negative electorate. This replaced right into a probability with the Bay of Pigs, and Cuba, before lower than Kennedy, and they are no longer lengthy previous yet. So, would not they be those to observe IF there replaced into something else going to happen? you spot, in ANY authorities, the all and distinctive seems expendable, yet they could guard the authorities, so it may rule the corpses left rotting in a while. that's 'suitable losses' as they say, and they don't care. do not problem. The negative Mayans couldn't see their own destiny, so why could they have considered this? Or, per chance they did, and took the first alien commute off the airborne dirt and dust ball in the previous it replaced into managed with the help of psychotic apes.

Ha ha ha!!! I remember all that. I was just starting to become really interested in computers then, and I had all my computer illiterate friends begging me to make their PCs "Y2K compliant" so they didn't explode on them when the clock struck 12. It was a good experience because I later got a job as a tech because of it. I also learned that most of it was hype. They even had useless commercial products like Norton 2000 and a bunch of other phony software claiming to help keep your computer from crashing in Y2K.
Funny thing is their old computers still work even now. They're just obsolete now and collecting dust. The only computers that really would have been affected were from like 1970 anyway so it was totally blown out of proportion. I'm sure a lot money was made off the hysteria though.

Y2K was a load of bollox. People were worried about the display, of the year being represented as 1900 + VariableX. Think of it like the pinball machine rolling over at 100,000 points. The machine keeps right on playing, doesn't worry that the score now says 01.
Even if computers were having trouble with the data, that it is unable to advance the binary, it would only happen at 2027. (When the aforementioned VariableX is a binary number of 11111111, and cannot advance) Given the increasing technology, by then, computers will be using different protocols, and we won't have to worry about it then, either.

It must be someone's gimmick to make money..
all offices were to have a Y2k protection..
I did nothing to my office computers and they were fine.

widespread panic. They said that because the numbers were going to chg to 2000 the computers were going to shut down , like at grocery stores, banks, anything that was on a computer system...because they weren't sure how the computers were goung to react to the change. some computers only went up to 1999.
