I live here in Japan for work and I have seen some odd stuff. Alchol, beer, porn (hardcore but all bare "pink" pubic regions are blocked by law in Japan with the floating blue dot or digital mosaic. Not for general consuption or soft porn as previous poster stated. The one that takes the cake in my opinion was the machine selling actual school girl worn panties. These included a picture of the girl wearing the panties you were buying taped on the front of the bag! This wasn't some sex shop either it was in a little hut on the side of the road next to a Coke machine and a Dydo machine! Dydo is a beverage company not a spelling error for a sex toy, just FYI.

Lobster. Well, technically, this is not a vending machine, but more of a game. You know those games were you use a claw to grab a stuffed animal? Well in this one you just grab a lobster instead. At least this way you can eat your prize! Just search for "lobster vending" in google or yahoo images to find a picture.
I also have seen a beetle vending machine. If you want a pet beetle.

It seems everyone covered all of the crazy things from vending machines that I have seen in Japan. But the weirdest thing I saw was not from a vending machine but from one of those claw games where you can grab a prize. The prizes were giant living beetles with huge pinchers in little plastic containers. These guys had to be 3 inches in length. There were little dishes of beetle food and water in their containers. Really strange o_O
