I want to mould a 60cm in length, 1-2inch thick clay tiki. create bright transparent plastic versions of. what material would I need to use in order to cast in plastic and what kinds of plastic are available to use in a home situation.

I think the most commonly used plastics are various kinds of resin. They are all unhealthy and smelly and should only be used in areas with really really good ventilation. They also tend to be pretty expensive. And I think silicon rubber molds are good to use with resins. Not cheap either. And you should be able to use some dyes in the resin.
There are tons of different resins out there. I suggest to type "cast resin" or something similar into google and look what comes up yourself.

Injection molds are made of steal, highly polished.

A friend of mine used to make molds.
His final polish was with toothpaste rubbed with his finger.
