WHY DO SUCH A DANGEROUS DIRTY JOB FOR SUCH LITTLE MONEY? I KNOW THE AVERAGE COAL MINER MAKES ABOUT$800 A WEEK, SO IM STUMPED. WHAT MAKES THIS TYPE OF JOB APEAL TO PEOPLE?

i have noting against it im only lucky i dont have to do it as a job i have a full understanding for dangerous jobs my husband is us army infantry and in iraq for the second time, i know what its like to be poor and all that stuff it makes you appreciate life more and need less "things" i was just wondering. and thank you to all who are who have been or know a coal miner!

If you lived in the areas you would know. My family comes from the coal mines of West Virginia. They don't KNOW anything else. Those are the only jobs they can do. By the way, they don't get $800 a week. They get around $250 a week.

$800 a week goes a long way in West Virginia. Sometimes you gotta do what you gotta do to get by. I myself have no desire to be a coal miner, but something posessed me to join the army and take on terrorists......man, I could have been a dentist!

800 dollars a week is a very decent amount. and manual labor happens to be very mentally rewarding as well as physically
