i have a ps2 and the games play perfectly. i tried three of my brother's ps1 games, and all of them wouldn't play properly. first game i tried displayed the ps1 logo was in the background as the game loaded properly and the screen was flashing heavily. with the second game i tried, it flashed a little... stopped... then it kept flashing again when i started playing a stage. with the last game i tried my ps2 made strange scratchy noises and could not read the disc at all. his discs look fine... a little scuffle from normal wear & tear, but i don't believe it's because the discs are defective. could it be that my ps2 refuses to read ps1 games??

Could come down to a few things:

-Your PS2 disc drive is not reading cd's properly, it is a common drive defect.

-The game cd might have scracthes and might need to be cleaned

-If you are using the increased disc speed enhancement option, it cause some games to freeze

-In a rare case, the game might be one of the few that are not compatible

I would e-mail Sony Computer Entertainment if you have a warranty. All Playstation 2's are supposed to play Playstation 1 games, you probably have a defective machine.

I take it you have a slimline PS2.

The older fat PS2 is fat because it actually has a PS1 inside. The slim uses emulation and has less compatability.
