she went back to her hood because she realized that she would be holding Ryan back, and that if she set up shop in Berkley that pretty much it would be her and Ryan, so Ryan would miss out on the whole college experience thing...and then Marissa dies...in Ryan's arms...and the OC jumps the shark...sob!
