YES!!
that is the exact reason I don't buy textbooks anymore. I have gone 2 quarters now without spending more than $100 on books.
Here are some tips:
1. always check online first (Barnes & Noble, Amazon, Ebay, etc.)
2. always buy used textbooks
3. ask the professor if you will actually need the book (I have had many classes where the tests are based off of the lectures and handouts. Everything important in the book was covered by the teacher in class, thus making the book pointless)
4. If the book is absolutely required, find a friend and offer to split the cost. Just make sure they are willing to share equally.
5. If the book is a new edition, try to find out what changes were made from the previous edition. Sometimes they are as little as a few paragraphs. I always ask my professors if the older editions will work.
6. Always ask upperclassmen if they still have their books. Ask to borrow them for the class or if they will sell them to you for cheap.

yea! they are so ridiculously expensive bc they know that ppl will have to buy them no matter how much they cost. And then the book stores make a ton of money off of them too by buying them back from u at ridiculously low prices and then selling them to others at twice the price that they bought it for.

YES! My college does allow to rent text books ....they do include a book fee in tuition but it is cheaper than buying the books. The problem with that is ...I would like to keep the books that relate to my major, but we have to return them....or pay big $$$$$ You may also go to halfprice.com to buy them at a discount. I guess they charge so much because they know you HAVE to buy them.
